Ghostbusters Is Hiring: Firehouse – The Review

October 2, 2019 ·

When Ghostbusters came out, I think we can honestly say it was the movie that had it all. Great cast, a great car, Slimer, and the one-liners were top-notch. I knew then that with some time and patience sprinkled with Virtual Reality, we could finally be the ones to be put into the action and maybe, just maybe be hired as the next Ghostbuster. And I for one am glad that Sony Pictures Virtual Reality is bringing this experience to PlayStation VR.

Ghostbusters Is Hiring: Firehouse is the first chapter if you will. The experience is short, but if you keep that in mind and just enjoy it for what it is, you can really have a good time. When you start, you see the infamous iconic firehouse. This is not a free-roam experience and it doesn’t need to be. But to move around you will be teleporting, which works very well in this game. You are then greeted by your ghost host if you will who let you know what’s kind of going on. I will say this, each scene brought a smile out. It was sort of like being at and in the movie at the same time.

Even before going inside the firehouse, you will meet an old friend and I want to applaud those who brought Slimer alive in VR. Seeing Slimer do what he does best just goes to show how much fun VR can be no matter how short the experience can be. As you interact with the surroundings, you start to get more into the reason why you are here, to interview to become a Ghostbuster.

Once inside the firehouse, you will see it, Ecto 1. I cannot tell you how much I just wanted to sit in the car and close the door. Keep in mind that you will need both Move Controllers for Ghostbusters Is Hiring: Firehouse as it would make sense and add to the immersion that is being presented to us. But what is missing is the characters. Where are they? When will they appear? These were the questions running through my head. But while I was wondering, something else was going on. Some mischief if you will that I had to help solve. Maybe this was part of the interview. Could I handle the supernatural on my own?

I won’t say anymore and I know what you are probably thinking “Is that it, the review is not any longer?” Well, I was going to write a longer review, but then got to thinking. The cliffhanger I felt after my experience was over and leaving me wanting more, I felt, why not have the same type of experience here? But I will say this, just keep your eye out for the creature at the end.

Ghostbusters Is Now Hiring: Firehouse is out now on PlayStation VR and also available on the Oculus Store, Steam, Viveport, and the Microsoft Store.
