There is something about being able to see and figure out how things work. From the plan to the execution of that plan, sometimes we may get it right on the first attempt and sometimes it may take many trials to finally get the right chain reaction in order to accomplish the task at hand. But does Developer FAKT Software along with Wild River and Perp Games allow us to have fun with physics in a new way within Virtual Reality? Let’s find out with Crazy Machines VR for the PlayStation VR.
Crazy Machines VR is a physics-based puzzle game where you take on the role of the professor as you get deeper into unexplored dimensions of the universe as you use certain objects to help complete the task so that you can get in the chaos that is the conscience of the professor. So with this being puzzle-based and you are going to need your hands free as you move the objects in hopefully their correct spot, you will want to make sure that both Move controllers are fully charged so you can get ready for some scientific fun.
When you first start early in Crazy Machines VR, have some various objects, that you can use, such as a truck, basketball, balloons, punching glove, and even a doll’s arm. Of course, these objects will change to some degree depending on the type level you are on. The objects can only be placed in certain spots, so don’t feel overwhelmed if you are seeing these already placed objects and think that you have to spend hours trying to solve them.
If for some reason you are having trouble solving the puzzle because you know deep down in your heart of hearts and you are sure whatever objects you placed will work. You run the test only to then find out have your heart broken because the object just didn’t work and you thought you tried everything. Lucky for you, you have an assistant that has very comedic responses, will show you where the objects need to be placed. I mean if you really need to do that, it is there for you to use, but just keep in mind that your assistant will need to recharge a little bit between uses. But you are smart, you are a professor and this is your stage to make your scientific calculations work just like you originally planned for them to on the very first attempt. I after many attempts through some of the levels, I decided my brain needed to recharge and used my assistant to the fullest of its abilities. I mean there is nothing wrong in asking for assistance from your robotic assistant, is there?
As you continue on with the levels, you will notice that certain spots where the objects can be placed is not really used at all. This type of trickery is mean, but funny and shows us that maybe we should not assume something goes somewhere without first knowing the situation of the puzzle. But it’s through this trial and error that I found as I moved along that I actually started to appreciate this technique and it did make my experience with Crazy Machines VR quite more enjoyable.
It is not so much the object as the placement spot itself that is important. For example, you may have placed a ball that bounces that is supposed to hit an object, but if the object that it is supposed to hit needs a metal connection than the machine cannot do what it needs to do. So there will be times when you will need to try over and over again until you get it just right. But once I started to have everything where it needed to be and I started the machine, there is just something about the different objects working within the machine that put a smile on my face.
The graphics of Crazy Machines VR are very clear and you are able to make out all the details which do come in quite nice when working with physic-based puzzles. I loved seeing the red tone of the lasers to the marks on the flowers and when you add the background that really gives a sense of depth all around it really is quite remarkable. There were some scenes that I just sat back and enjoyed the atmosphere and because this is Virtual Reality, I was able to sit and think for a moment which at times in our busy lives really was a nice change of pace. The sound was equally welcomed. Hearing the soft background music along with the almost being insulted by your assistant (not in a bad way) that I could not help but laugh out loud at some of the remarks. Hearing the professor speak along with the machine running your hope this is the right place for this object trial, just all had this right amount of balance to the experience.
If there is anything I would like to see added would be the ability to create our own machines and share them with others in a Crazy Machines VR community to see if others can complete them and if you can complete theirs. There could even be different types of themes or ways to make up new objects with some type of leaderboards to compliment it all. This is more of “it would be awesome if they did this” type of thing and not really is necessary, but it would be awesome if they did this.
Crazy Machines VR just has this satisfying pleasant vibe and this satisfactory level to it as you watch everything just click and rotate like a well-oiled machine.
