Get Ready For Improved Hand-Tracking…

April 30, 2022 ·

The newest update for the Quest 2 headsets takes its hand-tracking a leap forward. When hand-tracking became part of the experience, it wasn’t perfect, but it gave us the chance to see what could be possible. The first version had some users experiencing their hands missing and then showing back up once the headset could track everything. So when you moved your hands quickly such as waiving would become an issue like in the video below…

The newest update seems to have fixed the issues and improved gesture recognition within the basic ways of maneuvering throughout the experience such as pinching where users can click or even turn off their system and even grabbing for an object. You can see the difference between hand-tracking 1.0 vs 2.0 with just a simple thing like clapping how one hand would disappear, but in 2.0, both hands are fully present.

It’s great to see developers implement this as an alternative control method or away to enhance the experience overall. So as more and more developers start to implement the hands-tracking, it’s only going to get better. The update should be available now to download from the Quest 2 headset and you need to make sure you are on firmware v39 to receive the update.
