Is Xbox About To Join The Virtual Reality Dimension?

October 16, 2019 ·

When you think about PCVR, the names that may jump out at you is Oculus, HTC, and even Windows Mixed Reality. When you think about consoles, PlayStation VR comes to mind. But is another player, Microsoft, about to enter the game? There have been talks when Project Scorpio was being discussed about the possibility of having some of that Virtual Reality love. Well, as time gained closer to even well after launch it looked like Xbox would not be joining the party. But all this could be changing with the next version of the Xbox.

A new patent filed on October 3, 2019, shows what looks to be for a Virtual Reality mat that would help reduce any possible accidents by essentially generating vibrations. But the patent also shows what looks to be some sort of stylus with some sort of six-degree-of-freedom by enabling three-dimensional of virtual character.

I do find it kind of interesting that a mat would be used to and that it would be using vibrations, don’t get me wrong that anything that could possibly reduce or eliminate any accidents is great. I just wonder if something like Oculus’ Guardian System could used. I always have said that Microsoft should have the ability to have the Rift work with the Xbox, open up Steam and the Oculus Store or even Microsoft’s own Windows Mixed Reality as an add on. But since thre really is no official mention about this from Microsoft or no official word that they are in fact planning on incorporating Virtual Reality with the next version of Xbox, we will just have to wait and see.
