VR headsets are becoming more and more popular. Wired headsets, like the PlayStation VR, PlayStation VR2, HTC’s Pro series, and even the Rift and Rift S, require a console or PC that can run VR. Wireless headsets, like the Quest series and the Pico 4, let you play anywhere. KIWI design has introduced a new cable for wireless headsets that allows you to play PCVR games. The packaging is basic but has that KIWI design name in the center which is fine because it’s what is on the inside that matters
Inside, you will find the new version of the 16FT Link Cable and instruction booklet. Looking at the build of the cable, it has a nice feel to it. You can tell that some craftsmanship went into not only the cable itself but the ends as well.

Using the link cable could not be any easier:
- Just plug the USB Type – A end of the cable into an empty USB port, preferably a USB 3.0, USB 3.1, or USB 3.2, on your PC’s motherboard. For most, this would be on the back of your PC.
- Before plugging into your headset, make sure your headset software is current and up to date.
- If you have the PTC (Public Test Channel) enabled, it’s time to disable it.
- Make sure your PC audio settings are switched to your Quest headset.
- Download the Meta Quest Link application for your PC if you have not done so.
- Once your headset is on, make sure you go to Settings and make sure Quest Link is enabled.
- Then plug in the USB C part of the cable to your headset and you should see a box asking if you would like to use Quest Link. Click on it.
Once everything is connected, you will receive an indication if everything is good to go by the green circle that appears in the Meta Quest App. This will allow you to continue with the Setup.
Now, that everything is good to go, you can do one of two things. Jump right in and start playing some of your favorite games, or in the Meta Quest App, go into Devices, click on your headset, and scroll down to Graphics Preferences. The recommended default for the refresh rate is 72Hz and the Render Resolution should be something like 4128 x 2208. Now, if your PC can handle it, feel free to change it. I decided to test with everything maxed out to see if this cable could handle it. I changed my Refresh Rate to 120Hz, turned off Automatic (Recommended) for my Render Resolution, and maxed it out at 5408 x 2912. I started to play Asgard’s Wrath, and by the Gods, everything in the game looked fantastic, from the water to just the hair details of the characters with no frame drops or issues, and link stability was solid. Even testing the USB transfer rate with the higher settings, I got anywhere from 2.3Gbps to 3.0Gbps, which is pretty good.
I will say that pretty much, any time I have been playing PCVR games, it was with my Rift S. But after my experience with the Quest 3 and this cable, my Rift S will be on my permanent display, and my Quest 3 with the KIWI design New Link Cable will become my standard for VR gaming on the PC.
