A New PlayStation VR Patent Emerges…

September 24, 2020 ·

Patents are always fun to see the ideas behind them and today is no different. A new patent filed by Sony shows a really interesting concept that the controller can have different variations.

If you look at the variation on the right it almost takes a resemblance to the Move controller formation minus the light ball that we currently have now. Which, if true of being able to have different form factors could lead to new ways of playing in VR.

Another interesting look at the patent is how the controllers with the sensors and accelerometers built-in and can be tracked by the headset that according to the patent, must be used with the headset with front-facing cameras which means inside-out tracking that is becoming the standard today.

But if this is the new design, I cannot wait to try out those ergonomic controllers with thumbstick as it will make moving around in VR no the PlayStation VR more easily.
