Ghostbusters Is Hiring: Showdown – The Review

October 2, 2019 ·

When we last left we were just trying to get the interview, We explored the firehouse, we got to see Ecto 1 and yes sit at the end, we even got to use a trap and saw something with wings. Well if you made thus far and you have not run off yet, it’s time to answer the call of Ghostbusters Is Hiring: Showdown for PlayStation VR.

When Ghostbusters Is Now Hiring: Showdown starts, you are on a balcony looking down at the city. A call is made to the Ghostbusters and if you pay attention to the greeting of the Ghostbusters line, you might recognize a familiar voice. The caller is letting you know something is happening in the city. Then while the call is going, you might just see a certain winged creature causing some chaos.

As you are in the Ecto 1 racing to the scene, feel free to look around on the inside. I applaud the detail presented here. I actually felt like I was there, but the ride is short. I wished it was longer, but this is not what this episode or act is about. As you get to the scene, you might also be familiar with your ghost host from episode 1. I do like the fact that Sony Pictures Virtual Reality added something new here, but at the same time, bringing what we know and love back for round two.

You see in episode two, you will need both of those Move Controllers again as you will be blasting creatures, ghosts, and other crawling things. I do think it’s a really nice touch that when you are blasting out the stream, how the environment interacts. Just try and see what happens to the trees. It’s the small yet great experiences that are thrown in, to show you how powerful the tools that you have can actually feel and be in Virtual Reality.

As you are blasting flying creatures, the ghost type zombies are coming out you. But something is going on when you zap them. A goo will shoot if you will start moving towards Ecto 1. The more you destroy, the more there is. But you can’t worry about that now. You have to be quick as you are now a Ghostbuster and you have to bust some ghosts.

But I don’t want to spoil too much. But remember that scene in Ghostbusters where Ray thought of something and Peter asked what he did? Then we heard it. It came walking with such a strut…with such a force that you knew you were for something great. We heard those thunder pounding steps and once we saw it, we had that feeling inside, that smile so wide? For me, playing Ghostbusters Is Hiring: Showdown lives up to that moment just like I felt when seeing it in the movie.

But like Ghostbusters Is Now Hiring: Firehouse, Ghostbusters Is Now Hiring: Showdown is short. I don’t know if there will be an episode 3. I for one hope so. All we can hope for is that somehow, maybe this is a preparation for something bigger in VR.

Ghostbusters Is Now Hiring: Showdown is out now on PlayStation VR and is also available on the Oculus Store, Steam, Viveport, and the Microsoft Store. A review code was provided.

In case you missed the trailer, please enjoy. Until next time, I am going to go bust some more ghosts.
