Rumors and possible leaks can be a fun way to keep the motivation and hype going. Sometimes the rumors that are leaked end up being true and sometimes they are not and they are just that rumors. It is being reported that some of the specs match the specs in some fashion with the patents that have been filed in the past. For one, let’s talk about the possible specs being reported for the headset itself and if true, is going to be an impressive experience. Again, if rumors are true we are looking at:
PSVR 2 Headset –
- OLED screen with 2000 x 2040 per eye
- 4K HDR
- 110 degrees of FOV
PSVR 2 Controllers –
- Capacitive Touch Sensors
There are a couple of things that we need to keep in mind. Nothing has been made or officially shown by Sony about PlayStation VR 2. But (and this is a big one) if true, we are looking at as I said, an impressive VR experience. Imagine having a true 4k HDR with 110 degrees of FOV view. Plus, if what Sony did with the PS5 Dualsense controller can be implemented somehow into the new PSVR 2 controllers to tighten the overall experience, we truly have something to look forward to. But then that opens up some questions such as what will PSVR 2 cost? There is going to be a price to pay for the technology and experience. So pricing will hopefully be at a sweet spot. Second, will current PSVR games be backward compatible or does this mean a remaster of our favorite PSVR games? Would you be willing to pay for your favorite games again if that meant you could truly have a more immersive VR experience?
Time will tell and I hope some, if not, all of these rumors are true. But we will need to wait until Sony is ready to reveal their plans that will hopefully be at the beginning of 2022.
